Lazurite originates from the Persian word ‘lazhward’ which means blue. Other names include ‘blue spar’ and ‘azure spar’ which is also associated with the color blue. It is commonly known as a beautiful blue stone with white and gold hue which sometimes can resemble the sea or sky. The gold hue can sometimes take the form of Pyrite. Lazurite usually takes the form of blue or Indigo and was grounded into a powder and used to make a color which was popular with artists during the Renaissance period. At the time the color was even more valuable than gold itself. ©HSP
